Lansdale Police to Employ Social Distancing for Non-Priority, Not-in-Progress Calls

Following this afternoon’s announcement from Governor Tom Wolf that ordered the closure of schools, gyms, entertainment venues and community facilities across Montgomery County, Lansdale Borough Police have issued a release that they will also be undergoing preventative measures over the next two weeks.

Beginning this evening, the Lansdale Borough Police Department will begin to employ social distancing measures to ensure the safety of their officers and to reduce the potential spread of the coronavirus at the local level.

“The officers of the Lansdale Police Department will continue our service to the community without interruption, 24 hours per day, seven days per week,” said Lansdale Police Chief Michael Trail. “However, to provide the greatest level of safety to our community, Lansdale Police officers will be handling non-priority and not-in-progress calls for service by phone.”

Trail said that should a resident desire to have an officer respond to their home, they can do so by notifying dispatch that they would like to see an officer in-person. All other non-emergency calls will be handled by phone.

“This practice is being undertaken to provide social distancing to our community members,” Trail said. “Lansdale Police thank you in advance for your support, and urge you to call 9-1-1 when and if police services are needed.”

Any potential continuation of the social distancing measures will be evaluated in two weeks, Trail said.
