Nash Elementary Student Being Tested for Coronavirus, Schools to Remain Open

Officials from North Penn School District have released a statement regarding a student at Nash Elementary School being tested for the coronavirus.

In an email sent to parents at 3:58 p.m. on Wednesday, district officials stated that an unidentified student is being tested for the coronavirus, and the student and their household are currently quarantined pending the results of the testing.

Officials said that following a consultation with the Montgomery County Office of Public Health, they have determined that schools will remain open. The email states that there is no indication that anyone within the school district has had direct contact with someone who has a confirmed case of the coronavirus.

The district said that as a precautionary measure, intensive cleaning of Nash Elementary will take place on Wednesday night and Thursday morning in specific areas of the school. Disinfectant and electrostatic spray will be used in the classrooms and large group areas where the student previously frequented.

“Although we can never get to every single inch of a classroom with the various materials and furniture in place, NPSD will continue to clean and sanitize classrooms, health suites, large group areas and offices with the protocols in place,” said the district. “We ask, once again, that staff and students declutter their desks and flat surfaces as much as possible.”

The district said that as the situation with the coronavirus continues to evolve, they are seeking a practical balance between student and staff privacy and the community’s desire for information.

“Transparency and ongoing communication are extremely important,” said the district. “To that end, district administration is planning an online information session early next week. More detailed information will be provided over the coming days.”

The possible coronavirus exposure at Nash Elementary follows two other potential exposures that occurred at Kulp and Bridle Path elementary schools earlier this week. Though the schools remain open, officials said that those families who choose to keep their students home due to coronavirus concerns will be viewed as an excused absence.
