Laurel House Executive Director to be Presented with Award at Chamber of Commerce Conference

Beth Sturman, executive director of Laurel House.

Laurel House Executive Director Beth Sturman will accept the “Woman of Excellence” award at the fifth-annual Power Your Potential Montgomery County Women’s Conference on April 2 at Normandy Farm Hotel and Conference Center.

Merck and Co. is the presenting sponsor for the conference, which is hosted by The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Montgomery County (CCGMC).

The “Woman of Excellence” award is presented to a leading woman in southeastern PA who has made an influential impact in the region. Sturman has served as executive director at Laurel House since 2005. With more than 30 years of professional experience in the human services, Sturman has propelled the organization exponentially. She is a fierce advocate for individuals and families that Laurel House serves, and has led the way to expand their services from two locations to five. She is currently working to develop a new and improved shelter and community counseling center.

300 women in business are expected to attend the conference, which has sold out the past three years. Speakers who have overcome challenges and broken barriers in their fields include Cherri Gregg, consumer affairs reporter for KYW Newsradio; Sharmain Matlock-Turner, president/CEO of Urban Affairs Coalition; and Tracey Locke and Helene Angley, from Productively Funny.

The conference also includes two breakout sessions with diverse personal and professional development topics, including Shock Your Potential, Simply Your Life and Speaking to Influence.

Another component of the Montgomery County Women’s Conference is the Emerging Leaders Program, which provides seniors from area colleges with the opportunity to attend and participate in the conference at no charge. Each student is partnered with a mentor to accompany them throughout the conference. This unique program enables the next generation of leaders to hear from dynamic speakers, exchange ideas and begin to chart their own paths.

The conference is open to all business leaders, with registration at www.chambergmc.org.
