Woman Charged After Police Recover Firearm, Marijuana During Traffic Stop on Bethlehem Pike

A Pottstown woman is facing a felony weapons charge following a traffic stop on Bethlehem Pike in Montgomery Township earlier this month.

According to the criminal complaint, police were patrolling in the area of Bethlehem Pike and Knapp Road at 12:33 a.m. on June 12, when they observed a vehicle with heavily tinted windows hitting the brakes as it passed the patrol vehicle. Police then initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle along the 600 block of Bethlehem Pike, the report states.

Police made contact with the driver, identified as 34-year-old Alisha Davies, of Pottstown, as well as a female in the front passenger seat and male relative of Davies in the rear seat, the report states. As police spoke to Davies, they reported smelling an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and observed “indicators of deception and criminal activity,” according to the complaint.

When asked about the odor, the front seat passenger produced a half-smoked marijuana blunt, the report states. Police then removed the occupants from the vehicle and conducted a search, which allegedly revealed the following:

  • A Smith and Wesson .32 caliber revolver loaded with three hollow point bullets. Police said the serial number on the firearm had been “obliterated.”
  • Three green clear containers with a combined 15.3 grams of marijuana inside.
  • Multiple pills bottles containing ADHD medication and melatonin.
  • A zip-lock freezer bag with 26 grams of marijuana.
  • A pill bottle containing a small zip-lock bag with a powdery residue that tested positive for cocaine.

As a result of the traffic stop, Davies was taken into custody and charged with felony counts of possession of a firearm with an altered manufacturer number and receiving stolen property, as well as misdemeanor charges of illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, and summary charges of improper sunscreening and operating a vehicle with unsafe equipment.

Davies was arraigned later that morning by Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy, who set bail at $10,000 cash. Court records indicate that Davies posted bond the same day, and her next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on July 14 at 10 a.m. in front of Judge Duffy.

(All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.)
