Hilltown Township Police Chief Christopher Engelhart released a statement on Wednesday night, addressing rumors of an off-duty Philadelphia Police officer being followed home and having his personal vehicle set on fire.
Engelhart added that he saw other posts on social media stating that the vehicle was targeted due to it displaying a “thin blue line” flag, prompting him to clear things up.
“The truth is that the Hilltown Township Police Department is investigating a vehicle arson and suspicious person incident that occurred in the Orchard Hill development, which are believed to be connected,” said Engelhart. “We are further investigating whether the vehicle was specifically targeted due to the owner being a first responder; however, it was not owned by a police officer.”
Though the date and time of the incident were not released by police, they said they have since identified the suspicious subject that fled the scene on foot, and that subject is now a suspect in the arson.
“The investigation is continuing,” said Engelhart. “We do not believe there is any threat to the general public, but do ask that all residents report any suspicious incidents when they occur.”
Anyone with information regarding the incident, including anyone from the Orchard Hill development that may have surveillance footage, is asked to contact the Hilltown Township Police Department at 215-453-6011. Tips can be submitted electronically via their Crimewatch page.
