Montgomery County officials announced 84 new coronavirus cases and 14 additional deaths on Friday afternoon.
Data shows that of the 84 cases reported on Friday, 25 occurred in long-term care facilities, three occurred at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility and 56 were reported outside of those facilities. The countywide total now stands at 7,369 confirmed positive cases.
In the North Penn area, Lansdale Borough has the most cases with 213 and 25 deaths, followed by Montgomery Township with 200 and 28 deaths, Hatfield Township with 145 and three deaths, Towamencin Township with 118 and 23 deaths, Upper Gwynedd Township with 112 and 32 deaths, Hatfield Borough with 27 cases and North Wales Borough with 14 cases.
Total cases in the North Penn area currently stand at 829 and 111 deaths. Cases in the neighboring communities are as follows:
Totals across the surrounding municipalities currently stand at 799 cases and 90 deaths.
The countywide death toll from the coronavirus now stands at 720, of which more than 84% have come from residents of long-term care and congregate living facilities. Additionally, the 14 deaths reported on Friday are not representative of a single-day increase; rather, they occurred between April 16 and June 4, officials said.
As of Friday afternoon, 94 of the county’s long-term care and congregate living facilities have reported positive cases, including 2,022 positive cases among residents and 714 positive cases among staff members. County officials said that 180 residents are currently hospitalized due to the virus, and 25% of those hospitalized require the use of a ventilator.
Earlier on Friday, Pennsylvania reported 443 new coronavirus cases, bringing the state’s total to 74,385 cases. The state also announced 69 new confirmed deaths, bringing the total to 5,886 across the commonwealth.
In nursing and personal care homes, there are 15,929 resident cases of COVID-19, and 2,768 cases among employees, for a total of 18,697 at 611 distinct facilities in 45 counties. Out of the state’s total deaths, 4,077 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.
To date, 5,659 healthcare workers and more than 2,550 food industry workers across the commonwealth have tested positive for the coronavirus. Hospitalization statistics show that 1,174 people are currently hospitalized across the commonwealth, of which 257 require the use of a ventilator. 44.8% of hospital beds and 38.3% of adult ICU beds are currently available.
As of June 5, 424,201 residents have tested negative for the coronavirus. 70% of those who have tested positive in Pennsylvania have since recovered.
