Coronavirus Update: County Reports 59 New Cases, No Additional Deaths

Montgomery County officials announced 59 new coronavirus cases and no additional deaths on Wednesday afternoon.

Data shows that of the 59 cases reported on Wednesday, zero occurred in  long-term care facilities and all 59 cases were reported outside of those facilities. The countywide total now stands at 8,861 confirmed positive cases.

In the North Penn area, Lansdale Borough has the most cases with 253 and 31 deaths, followed by Montgomery Township with 229 and 30 deaths, Hatfield Township with 170 and three deaths, Upper Gwynedd Township with 137 and 37 deaths, Towamencin Township with 130 and 26 deaths, Hatfield Borough with 36 cases and North Wales Borough with 20 cases.

Total cases in the North Penn area currently stand at 974 and 127 deaths. Cases in the neighboring communities are as follows:

  • Souderton Borough – 89
  • Telford Borough – 39
  • Franconia Township – 89 and 12 deaths
  • Lower Salford Township – 84 and one death
  • Skippack Township – 94 and six deaths
  • Worcester Township – 71 and four deaths
  • Whitpain Township – 147 and 14 deaths
  • Lower Gwynedd Township – 164 and 34 deaths
  • Horsham Township – 236 and 38 deaths

Totals across the surrounding municipalities currently stand at 1,013 cases and 109 deaths.

The countywide death toll from the coronavirus now stands at 811, of which 672 (83%) have come from residents of long-term care and congregate living facilities.

In the past seven days, there have been a total of 240 new cases reported in Montgomery County, which is an increase of 13 compared to the previous week. As of Wednesday afternoon, county officials said 58 residents were hospitalized, of which 11 required a ventilator. 

Earlier on Wednesday, Pennsylvania reported 994 new coronavirus cases, bringing the state’s total to 97,665 cases. The state also announced 26 new confirmed deaths, bringing the total to 6,957 across the commonwealth.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 18,384 resident cases of COVID-19, and 3,517 cases among employees, for a total of 21,901 at 763 distinct facilities in 57 counties. Out of the state’s total deaths, 4,767 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

To date, 7,284 healthcare workers and more than 2,600 food industry workers across the commonwealth have tested positive for the coronavirus. Hospitalization statistics show that 667 people are currently hospitalized across the commonwealth, of which 88 require the use of a ventilator. 33.8% of hospital beds and 38.1% of adult ICU beds are currently available.

In the last seven days, 139,819 tests have been administered in Pennsylvania, of which 5,372 returned positive results. The rate of positive tests for that period 3.8%, according to state data.

As of July 15, 870,984 residents have tested negative for the coronavirus. 76% of those who have tested positive in Pennsylvania have since recovered.
