Suspected Felony Lane Gang Member Arrested After Attempting to Cash Bad Check in Towamencin

Jennifer Conyers, 39, of Pensacola, FL.

A Florida woman is facing multiple felony charges after she allegedly attempted to cash a bad check at the Citizens Bank on Valley Forge Road, then fled from police as they arrived on scene.

Jennifer Conyers, 39, of Pensacola, FL, has been charged with felony counts of dealing in proceeds of unlawful activity, identity theft, forgery, access device fraud, receiving stolen property and two counts of attempted theft in connection with the investigation by the Towamencin Township Police Department.

Police confirmed to North Penn Now that they believe Conyers is a member of an organized group of thieves based out of Florida called the “Felony Lane Gang.” The group is known to steal identities, credit cards and checkbooks from unattended vehicles via smash-and-grab break-ins, then use those stolen items and identities to commit fraud at banks across the country.

The name “Felony Lane Gang” is derived from their members’ persistent usage of the furthest drive-through lane from the window at banks — known as the felony lane —as it makes it harder for bank personnel to see the people inside the vehicle, and allows the vehicle a quick escape should they encounter trouble.

According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to the 700 block of South Valley Forge Road at 12:46 p.m. on June 25 for a report of an attempted theft at the bank’s drive-through. Bank personnel reported that a woman wearing a blonde wig and sunglasses — later identified as Conyers — was attempting to cash a bad check in the drive-through lane, the report states.

Police said they arrived to the scene just as Conyers was exiting the parking lot in a black Mercedes SUV, and followed the vehicle down Whites Road to Stoler Road, where they found the vehicle abandoned on a lawn at the dead end of the road. As police searched the area, they located Conyers walking barefoot on Allentown Road while wearing pants, a sports bra and carrying a large bag, the report states.

Conyers admitted to being the driver of the Mercedes and was taken into custody, and police then secured the vehicle, according to the report. Investigators said they noticed a blonde wig, sunglasses, and an upside-down check in plain view inside the vehicle, as well as a note taped to the driver’s side vent containing personal information and details from a stolen identity, police said.

Police allege that Conyers attempted to cash a check written from a stolen checkbook, which was then made out to another woman whose identity had been stolen. The report states that police recovered a driver’s license and bank card that Conyers used at the bank, bearing the name that was affixed to the note inside of the vehicle.

Once in custody, Conyers informed police that she had been recruited by a man named “Gucci” in Fort Lauderdale, FL, to travel up the east coast to cash stolen checks, the report states. Conyers added that “Gucci” was the one who gave her the stolen bank card, driver’s license and checks, as well as supplied her with the blonde wig and the Mercedes SUV, according to the report.

Conyers added that “Gucci” was on the phone with her once she took control of the SUV, and he directed her to Citizens Bank, the complaint states. As Conyers was attempting to pass the stolen check, “Gucci” told her that he heard sirens and instructed her to leave, the report states.

Police arrived a few moments later, according to the complaint.

Conyers was arraigned later that day by Magisterial District Judge Deborah Lukens, who set bail at $10,000 cash. Conyers was then remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail, and her next court appearance is a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District judge Ed Levine on July 15 at 11:45 a.m.
