Lansdale Police: Suspicious Teen Has Been Identified, Working on Ensuring the Incidents Stop

Lansdale Borough Police have identified a suspicious teen who approached multiple women in the area of York Avenue and engaged them in uncomfortable discussions late last week.

Due to the suspect being a minor, Lansdale Borough Police Chief Michael Trail said he was limited in what information he could release. However, Trail confirmed that police have identified the teen and are working to ensure that the incidents cease.

“For a number of reasons, we will not be issuing any statement outside of the fact that we have identified the subject and are working to make sure these incidents stop,” Trail said. “The Lansdale Police Department wants to remind the community that suspicious incidents like this should always be reported to 911 immediately.”

The investigation was triggered after a June 26 Facebook post by a female residing on York Avenue, documenting a strange encounter with a suspicious male teen who was standing outside of her vehicle. Soon after the post was created, additional females from the neighborhood commented with similar accounts of incidents involving the teen on the same day.

In total, four women described similar encounters with the teen on Friday. However, following North Penn Now’s article confirming the police investigation, a fifth woman surfaced who said she encountered teen and gave him a ride.

In that incident, the woman was unloading groceries from her vehicle when she was approached by the teen, who asked her for a ride to Fifth Street. The woman said she gave the teen a ride, during which he asked if she had a boyfriend and also asked for a hug. She then dropped him off, but said she was initially shaken by the encounter.

The woman stated that she spoke to police on Wednesday, who informed her that the teen had some disabilities and investigators had spoken to the subject and his parents. When asked by North Penn Now if the teen had special needs, police said they could not confirm.
