Water Tower Cinema to Reopen on Friday with Enhanced Covid-19 Protections

(The following is a press release from The Goldenberg Group announcing the reopening of Water Tower Cinema.)

The Goldenberg Group’s Water Tower Cinema announced on Tuesday that it will be re-opening its doors on July 3. Featuring special “welcome back” pricing, limited time gift card promotions and a slate of big-screen film favorites, theater-goers who have been sheltering in place at home since mid-March will be excited to reengage in the movie going experience.

Extensive planning has been underway in anticipation of Montgomery County’s transition to green phase on June 26, allowing for implementation of new safety and cleaning/sanitizing protocols in accordance with CDC and state guidelines, putting its guest’s comfort and safety first.

“Our guests’ sense of safety, comfort and confidence about returning to the movies is our highest priority,” said Steve Palmer, Chief Financial Officer for The Goldenberg Group. “Just as our community expected best-in-class service before we closed, our commitment to the safety and comfort of our staff and patrons is evident throughout every inch of our theater, which is one of the largest, most spacious in this area.”

Plans include professional cleaning and sanitization of the entire building, installation of hand sanitizers and COVID-19 prevention signage throughout the cinema, directional floor markings for safe social distancing and widespread foot traffic within the theater’s already wide footprint, new ticketing kiosks and credit card chip readers for touchless payment transactions, and plexiglass walls in the lobby ticketing and concession stand areas.

New staff policies include daily health screenings (including daily temperature readings before entering the building), mask and glove requirements, cleaning and sanitizing of all high-touch areas every 30-60 minutes, mandatory hand washing every 30-60 minutes (depending on job role) plus 45 minute breaks between showtimes to allow for full sanitization of theater auditoriums. In addition to paying close attention to CDC and state guidelines, the theater surveyed its customers to learn more about their range of comfort returning to the movies, implementing their recommendations into its safety and cleaning protocols.

Water Tower Cinema’s Welcome Back Weekend specials include $4 tickets and $4 concession bundles (medium popcorn and regular drink) and gift card specials. Since blockbuster releases “Tenet” and “Mulan” opening dates were moved to August, Water Tower’s re-opening slate features “Big-Screen Classics” including such favorites as Jaws, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park, Jungle Book (Live Action) and Bad Boys for Life. The theater suggests guests arrive 30 mins prior to showtimes to allow for social distancing and to minimize wait times in lines.

Masks are required to enter the building. The theater will have a full supply of disposable masks for $1, just in case in all of your excitement to return to the movies, you forget yours!
