Officials from Lidl and Towamencin Township held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday morning, marking the official return of a grocer to the location formerly occupied by Acme on Welsh Road.
More than 100 residents gathered to participate in Lidl’s Grand Opening Celebration, which included free gift cards to the first 100 customers, free samples and other festivities and giveaways. Among them was an unnamed man who arrived at 5 a.m. to be the first in line, and Lidl officials told North Penn Now that it was the man’s sixth time attending one of their grand opening’s across Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Pronounced as rhyming with “needle,” Lidl now occupies nearly 30,000-square-feet of the former Acme location, with the remainder being set aside for a to-be-determined tenant to occupy the second portion of the building. The opening comes roughly six months after their primary competitor, ALDI, opened two miles down the road at Ralph’s Corner.
The Towamencin store, located at 1150 Welsh Road, is Lidl’s seventh store in Pennsylvania. Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Sunday.
