A Philadelphia woman is facing charges following a vulgar and violent DUI traffic stop in Montgomery Township.
According to the criminal complaint, police were patrolling along the 500 block of Bethlehem Pike at 11:35 p.m. on Jan. 16, when they observed a Nissan Maxima pass by with illegally tinted windows. As police caught up to the vehicle, they noticed that it was following “extremely close” to the vehicle in front of it, and a traffic stop was then initiated in the parking lot of the Quality Inn, the report states.
Police said that when they encountered the driver—identified as 25-year-old Kyra Robinson—she smelled of alcohol and was fumbling over her vehicle’s paperwork. Robinson is described in the complaint as slurring her words, with glassy eyes and low eye lids.
When asked how much she had to drink, Robinson replied that she had consumed one beer, the report states. Verbal and field sobriety tests allegedly showed signs of impairment, and Robinson was placed under arrest for DUI, police said.
The report states that when police attempted to place Robinson into the vehicle, she fell to the ground and went completely limp. Robinson allegedly refused to stand up, and when police picked her up to place her into the rear of the vehicle, she allegedly head-butted an officer in the chest, nearly missing his face, according to the complaint.
Upon exiting the vehicle at the Montgomery Township Police Department, Robinson again went limp and stated “You can carry me,” police said. Robinson then laid back on the ground, intentionally vomited and began rubbing her legs, arm and face in it, the report states. Police picked Robinson up from the ground, at which point she allegedly tried to urinate on the floor, according to the report.
Once Robinson was placed into a holding cell, she allegedly removed all of her clothing and began slamming her head into the bars of the cell, police said. Robinson was then transported to Lansdale Hospital, the report states.
Police picked up Robinson for transport following her release from the hospital, at which point she went limp again, had to be carried to the vehicle and lifted her legs off the ground while being carried, the report states. Once at the vehicle, Robinson allegedly straightened her body to stop police from placing her inside, according to the report.
During the duration of the incident, police said Robinson was laughing and smiling until she eventually stopped resisting, said “Okay, okay,” and allowed police to place her into the vehicle, according to the complaint.
As a result of the incident, Robinson has been charged with misdemeanor counts of DUI and resisting arrest, along with summary charges of following too closely and improper sunscreening.
Robinson was arraigned on Jan. 17 by Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy, who set bail at $5,000 cash. Robinson was then remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail, and her next court appearance is a preliminary hearing in front of Judge Duffy on Jan. 23.
