The Lansdale Borough Police Department has provided an update on a crash that sent one woman to the hospital after her vehicle overturned on Knapp Road Tuesday morning.
According to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, first responders were dispatched to the intersection of Knapp Road and Norway Drive at 7:56 a.m. on Jan. 14 for a report of a single-vehicle accident with entrapment. Upon arrival, police encountered a vehicle that had struck a utility pole and overturned, with a 24-year-old female trapped inside.
Crews worked to extricate the female from the vehicle, and she was freed a short time later. Lansdale Borough Police Lieutenant Ryan Devlin told North Penn Now that the woman avoided injury from the crash, but she was taken to a local hospital via ambulance as a precaution.
Devlin said that the woman told police that she works nights, and had fallen asleep while driving, which caused the crash. No charges will be filed against the woman, Devlin said.
Police said that in addition to the damage to the vehicle and utility pole, an external air conditioning unit attached to a nearby home was struck by flying debris causing minor damage.
Knapp Road was initially closed from Norway Drive to North Wales Road due to the crash, and the roadway was re-opened to traffic around noon, police said.
In addition to the Lansdale Borough Police Department, units from the Montgomery Township Police Department, Fairmount Fire Company, Fire Department of Montgomery Township and Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale assisted at the scene.
