Knights for Life to Host Fundraiser for Local Father of Four Battling End-Stage Kidney Failure

Knights for Life will host their annual “Knight for a Cause” fundraiser at the Pinecrest Country Club later this month, with proceeds going to the family of a Towamencin man who is currently battling end-stage renal failure.

The signature fundraising event occurs once each year, with benefits going to a person or family dealing with near-insurmountable circumstances and/or illness. This year, the organization chose the family of 38-year-old Josh Bafia—a type-one diabetic who has been battling end stage kidney failure for years while awaiting a kidney transplant.

Josh and his wife, Missy, have four children, and as a family, they have struggled both emotionally and financially through Josh’s diagnosis and associated treatment, which includes three four-hour-long dialysis appointments per week. Adding to that stress was a single-vehicle crash that occurred in July 2019, when Josh’s blood-sugar dropped and caused him to go unconscious while driving the family’s minivan.

The van struck a utility pole and overturned, leaving Josh with a fractured arm, bruising to his collar bone, minor head trauma and a totaled vehicle.

The fundraiser for the Bafia family is scheduled for Jan. 31 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., and will be held at 101 Country Club Drive in Montgomery Township. Organizers said the evening will feature raffle prizes, a photo booth, special guests, a new menu, beer, wine and music performed by Mike Greer.

Tickets for the event, as well as further information can be found by clicking here.

In the interim, organizers are seeking out those who wish to help with the event. Sponsorships and volunteers are needed, as are donations for raffles. Those who wish to assist in any way can contact Knights for Life via Facebook by clicking here.

For those who can’t make the event but wish to support the Bafia family, there is an ongoing fundraiser on GoFundMe in which donations can be made. The page is monitored and managed by Jodie Miller, who is a close friend of the Bafia family. Since its launch in November 2018, the fundraiser has brought in $9,040 of its $20,000 goal.
