Following the recent federal and state mandates increasing the age for purchase and use of tobacco products, Liberty Vapor, located along the 300 block of Madison Street in Lansdale, has announced that they plan on closing the Liberty Vinyl portion of their store.
Liberty Vapor co-founder Ron Roseman told North Penn Now that the launch of Liberty Vinyl was initially an experiment and secondary use of the store’s space, but with recent bad press regarding the vaping industry and efforts to ban flavored vaping products, the shop is preemptively moving towards a 21-year-old-plus clientele.
The announcement of the closure was made via a Facebook post on Jan. 6, which stated that as of Jan. 1, no one under the age of 18 would be allowed in the store, and as of Feb. 1, no one under the age of 21 would be allowed in.
“We don’t feel that music should be restricted to adults, so the choice was made to close the record store,” reads the announcement.
Though the federal and state mandates have not yet taken effect, Roseman said the store wanted to take a proactive approach and limit exposure to those who are underage.
Beyond the closure, Roseman said he was looking into future uses for the extra space. Among those ideas, Roseman said that with the possibility of marijuana being legalized in Pennsylvania, he’s started preliminary research into the legalities of possibly converting the space into a glass/head shop.
In the interim, Liberty Vinyl has announced a 30-percent-off sale on everything in the record store.
