Ambler NAACP Chapter Shows Support for Pennfield Petition, Plans to Attend School Board Meeting

The Ambler Chapter of the NAACP, which serves the North Penn area as well as portions of Indian Valley, has issued a press release pledging their support and advocacy to Pennfield Middle School parents in the wake of an incident involving an 8th grade student who allegedly made terroristic threats against the school last month.

The release reads, in part:

On Jan. 1, the NAACP Ambler Branch received a request for advocacy and support from concerned parents of the North Penn School District. The request for advocacy relates to the "expressed dissatisfaction" in regards to the school district's response—or lack thereof—to terroristic threats.

The request for support was related to a school community petition regarding "terroristic threats made by an 8th grade Pennfield Middle School student." The Ambler Branch has accepted the request for advocacy and supports the parents' petition.

We plan to address the parents' concerns with an official statement at the Jan. 16 North Penn School Board meeting, as we will be: #StandingWithThem!

The petition, which was filed anonymously under the screen-name “Concerned Parent” on Dec. 26, 2019, states that on Dec. 13, 2019, an 8th grade student at Pennfield Middle School allegedly threatened to “shoot up” the school. The petition also claims that the student had allegedly made terroristic threats against the school on a prior occasion, including the alleged creation of a list of students commonly referred to as a “hit list” or “kill list,” and questions the school district’s response to the incident.
