One Year After Death of Lead Singer, Mesa Glow Returns to Perform at The Underground

This Saturday, The Underground is proud to welcome back local Lansdale band Mesa Glow after a year-long hiatus.

Soon after the release of their debut EP, “Here I Reside,” in November 2018, this world lost a beautiful soul and Mesa Glow singer, Taylor Goettner. Mesa Glow holds a special place in my heart for a few reasons. First being that they were one of the first bands that I booked at The Underground when I was hired on full-time in October 2018.

Secondly, their song, “Stench of Mind,” from their EP, “Here I Reside,” has been on constant rotation in my playlists since the day it was released. This song has carried me through many rough points in my life. Whenever I was down or feeling low, I knew the soothing sounds of Mesa Glow’s ambient guitars and poetic lyrics would be my release and I could get some emotions out. One particular lyric in “Stench of Mind”, “...I can’t do this on my own…” consistently hits home, because sometimes we may not be able to carry on alone, but we have our family, community and friends around to lift us up.

It also reminds me that it’s ok to ask for help when you need help. That’s what the Lansdale scene means to me.

Upon writing this article, I reached out to Eddie Reese, guitarist for Mesa Glow, to get some thoughts on the upcoming show and the welcoming of their new member, Victoria. Reese said the following:

“This show is also very important to us, because it is our first show back together in a year, as we had taken some time off to reflect and recuperate Mesa Glow as whole. It was a long year of writing and rehearsing these new songs. We are extremely proud of the music we have yet-again created together. In almost every other band I’ve ever been in, there has been one power house to write and direct all of the music. Mesa Glow has been a different journey into my musical career as all of our songs are written together, piece by piece. Our newest member, Victoria, spends her time behind the microphone sculpting memorable verses and chorus parts, always prepared for practice and somehow remembers her lyrics without some kind of cheat sheet. It is a collective experience and we only hope to grow together as a band, and with our listeners.

This is the first time we will be playing any of these songs live. We have chosen to not play any of our previous material live again. We look to leave those songs the way they were: crafted with care, alongside our beloved Taylor. We do not aim to let that loss define our band. We acknowledge our experiences in having dealt with this, and as a wash came over us one practice in Harrisburg, we knew that we were doing the right thing. We continue on as everyone around us does in their personal lives to live and celebrate our hobbies and passions. We continue on with the strength and guidance gifted to us by loved ones, always keeping those songs and experiences close to our hearts.”
