Social Media Tip Leads to ID of Grocery Store Thief in Hilltown Township, Police Say

In October 2019, Hilltown Township Police put out a public request for assistance in identifying a male suspect involved in a retail theft from the Giant Food Store in Souderton. In the time since, and as a direct result of the use of social media, the suspect has since been identified and taken into custody.

Maxi Valdes-Tanon, 43, of Telford, has been charged with felony retail theft along with a misdemeanor charge of receiving stolen property, in connection with a retail theft that occurred along the 700 block of Route 113 on Oct. 4, 2019.

Three days after the alleged retail theft, police issued their request for public assistance complete with surveillance images of the suspect and his vehicle. Police told North Penn Now that as a result of their request, a tip was received providing the identity of the suspect, and a subsequent investigation confirmed the suspect as Valdes-Tanon.

Valdes-Tanon was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage on Feb. 19, who set bail at 10-percent of $5,000 cash. Valdes-Tanon was then remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing in front of Judge Armitage on March 17 at 2:45 p.m.
