A Lansdale man is facing multiple misdemeanor charges after he allegedly brandished a knife during an altercation outside of the Hillcrest Shopping Center late last month.
According to the complaint, Lansdale Police were dispatched to the intersection of East Main Street and Greenwood Road at 10:51 a.m. on Jan. 26 for a report of a subject armed with a knife. The reporting party told dispatch that a white male wearing a black leather jacket with purple hair had allegedly threatened them with a knife, and was walking through the Hillcrest Shopping Center parking lot towards the North Penn YMCA.
As police were on their way to the scene, they saw a suspect—later identified as 53-year-old Anthony Colavecci—matching the description, and ordered him to stop, the report states. Police observed a folding-style knife in Colavecci’s right hand, which he dropped when instructed to do so, police said. Colavecci was then detained, according to the report.
At the scene of the incident, police spoke to the reporting party who stated that they were stopped at a red light when Colavecci began to slowly cross the intersection on foot, the report states. When the signal turned green, Colavecci continued to slowly cross the intersection, prompting a motorist behind the reporting party to honk their horn, police said.
Colavecci then launched into a verbal tirade, swearing at the two occupants in the first vehicle, the report states. One of the occupants opened their door to confront Colavecci, at which point Colavecci brandished a knife and threatened them, according to the report.
As Colavecci walked away from the scene, the reporting party was able to take photos of him with the knife in his hand, the report states. Additionally, the owner of the vehicle that honked their horn corroborated the statement of the occupants of the first vehicle, according to the report.
As a result of the incident, Colavecci has been charged with misdemeanor counts of making terroristic threats, possession of a weapon, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and disorderly conduct, as well as a summary charge of harassment.
Colavecci was arraigned on Jan. 26 by Magisterial District Judge William Maruszczak, who set bail at $5,000 unsecured. Colavecci was then released from custody, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine.
