Woman Injured in Upper Gwynedd Fire Has Died, Officials Release ID of Victim

An Upper Gwynedd Township woman has died following injuries sustained during a two-alarm fire at the Gwynedd Club on Sunday afternoon.

According to Upper Gwynedd Township Fire Marshal Jeff Tomczak, 62-year-old Joann Maletto was pronounced dead on Monday morning by the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office.

Crews were dispatched to the intersection of Kearney Drive and Arbour Court at 12:29 p.m. on Dec. 13 for a report of a residential fire. Dispatch notes indicated that multiple callers reported seeing flames and heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the residence.

Upon arrival, firefighters and a neighbor attempted to rescue a resident inside of the burning unit — later identified as Maletto — but smoke and heat conditions pushed them back. After additional crews arrived, they were able to successfully remove the Maletto from the unit, according to Upper Gwynedd Township Fire Marshal Jeff Tomczak.

Multiple sources at the scene reported that emergency medical personnel were seen providing CPR on Maletto, who was then transported from the scene via ambulance to Abington Lansdale Hospital, and subsequently airlifted from Lansdale Hospital to another hospital in Philadelphia for treatment of her injuries.
