A powerful line of thunderstorms made its way through the area on Monday afternoon, causing significant damage to vehicles, homes and stores across the Montgomeryville area.
In an unusual occurrence for the time of year, a tornado watch was placed across the Delaware Valley around 1 p.m. on Nov. 30. Rains continued throughout the afternoon, but by 3:45 p.m. the rains turned heavy as a strong thunderstorm crossed the area. Shortly afterward, the tornado watch was upgraded to a tornado warning, and reports of damage to stores and homes in the area of Costco in Montgomery Township quickly surfaced.
Due to the size and scope of the damage, coupled with the tornado warning, speculation immediately pointed to a tornado potentially touching down in the Montgomeryville area, but the National Weather Service has not confirmed that was the case.
North Penn Now has reached out to the National Weather Service for more information on what caused the damage across the area. We will provide updated coverage when we receive a response. Until then, view photos of the damage in the gallery below.
