(The following is a release from the Upper Gwynedd Police Department.)
On the morning of Aug. 4, Chief David Duffy was presented with Upper Gwynedd Police Department’s official re-accreditation. The entire staff of Upper Gwynedd Police Department works year-round to maintain the high standards set by the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC) because we believe our residents deserve the best service that we can provide.
The Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association created PLEAC in July 2001. Since then, approximately 10% of Pennsylvania law enforcement agencies are currently accredited, and Upper Gwynedd is in the 2% of agencies that have maintained the certification for 15 years or more. Our original accreditation was in 2005 and we have since successfully passed re-accreditation assessments (which are more difficult than the first) in 2008, 2011, 2014, and 2017 and now 2020.
PLEAC Director Richard Hammon has advised that we will also be bestowed the title of “Premier Agency,” since we have successfully passed five consecutive re-accreditation assessments with no extensions or provisions. Premier Agency is the highest professional recognition that a PA law enforcement agency can achieve. We will remain part of the PLEAC program as one of several methods to ensure that we continue to hold ourselves to the highest standards.
