Coronavirus Update: County Reports 53 New Cases

Montgomery County announced 53 new coronavirus cases and zero additional deaths on Thursday morning.

Data shows that of the 53 cases reported on Thursday, one was reported from a long-term care facility, zero were reported from the county jail and the remaining 52 occurred outside of those facilities. The countywide total now stands at 10,691 confirmed positive cases.

In the North Penn area, Lansdale Borough has the most cases with 273 and 31 deaths, followed by Montgomery Township with 267 and 30 deaths, Hatfield Township with 198 and three deaths, Upper Gwynedd Township with 164 and 37 deaths, Towamencin Township with 154 and 27 deaths, Hatfield Borough with 37 cases and North Wales Borough with 31 cases.

Total cases in the North Penn area currently stand at 1,124 and 128 deaths. Total cases in the neighboring communities are as follows:

  • Souderton Borough – 94
  • Telford Borough – 40
  • Franconia Township – 101 and 12 deaths
  • Lower Salford Township – 113 and one death
  • Skippack Township – 135 and six deaths
  • Worcester Township – 90 and four deaths
  • Whitpain Township – 176 and 14 deaths
  • Lower Gwynedd Township – 176 and 35 deaths
  • Horsham Township – 283 and 38 deaths

Totals across the surrounding municipalities currently stand at 1,208 cases and 110 deaths.

The countywide death toll from the coronavirus continues to stand at 826, of which more than 80% have come from residents of long-term care and congregate living facilities.

In the past seven days, there have been a total of 299 new cases reported in Montgomery County, which is an increase of seven cases over the previous week. Additionally, the county’s PCR Test Positivity Rate — which had been below 3% from Aug. 4 through Aug. 17 — is back above 3% and currently stands at 3.1%.

Also on Thursday, Pennsylvania reported 620 new coronavirus cases, bringing the state’s total to 131,156. The state also announced that there were 11 new confirmed deaths on Thursday, bringing the total to 7,635 confirmed deaths across the commonwealth.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 20,870 resident cases of COVID-19, and 4,440 cases among employees, for a total of 25,310 at 923 distinct facilities in 61 counties. Out of the state’s total deaths, 5,157 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

To date, 9,473 healthcare workers have tested positive for the coronavirus. Hospitalization statistics show that 542 people are currently hospitalized across the commonwealth, of which 82 require the use of a ventilator. 20.8% of hospital beds and 24.6% of adult ICU beds are currently available.

In the last seven days, 151,008 tests have been administered in Pennsylvania, of which 4,387 returned positive results. The rate of positive tests for that period is 2.9%, according to state data.

As of Aug. 27, 1,471,765 tests have been negative for the coronavirus. 81% of those who have tested positive in Pennsylvania have since recovered, leaving 24,920 active cases across the state.
