Coronavirus Update: County Reports 39 New Cases, 1 Additional Death

Montgomery County announced 39 new coronavirus cases and one additional death on Friday morning.

Data shows that of the 39 cases reported on Friday, zero were reported from long-term care facilities, zero were reported from the county jail and the remaining 39 occurred outside of those facilities. The countywide total now stands at 10,433 confirmed positive cases.

In the North Penn area, Lansdale Borough has the most cases with 273 and 31 deaths, followed by Montgomery Township with 265 and 30 deaths, Hatfield Township with 195 and three deaths, Upper Gwynedd Township with 152 and 37 deaths, Towamencin Township with 150 and 27 deaths, Hatfield Borough with 37 cases and North Wales Borough with 28 cases.

Total cases in the North Penn area currently stand at 1,100 and 128 deaths. Total cases in the neighboring communities are as follows:

  • Souderton Borough – 94
  • Telford Borough – 40
  • Franconia Township – 99 and 12 deaths
  • Lower Salford Township – 110 and one death
  • Skippack Township – 127 and six deaths
  • Worcester Township – 83 and four deaths
  • Whitpain Township – 175 and 14 deaths
  • Lower Gwynedd Township – 176 and 35 deaths
  • Horsham Township – 283 and 38 deaths

Totals across the surrounding municipalities currently stand at 1,187 cases and 110 deaths.

The countywide death toll from the coronavirus now stands at 825, of which more than 80% have come from residents of long-term care and congregate living facilities. County officials said on Wednesday afternoon that there are 47 residents currently hospitalized, and four of them require a ventilator.

In the past seven days, there have been a total of 289 new cases reported in Montgomery County, which is a decrease of eight cases compared to the previous week. Additionally, the county’s PCR Test Positivity Rate continues to be below 3%—where it has remained since Aug. 4. 

Also on Friday, Pennsylvania reported 693 new coronavirus cases, bringing the state’s total to 127,633 The state also announced that there were 20 new confirmed deaths on Friday, bringing the total to 7,558 confirmed deaths across the commonwealth.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 20,594 resident cases of COVID-19, and 4,336 cases among employees, for a total of 24,930 at 910 distinct facilities in 61 counties. Out of the state’s total deaths, 5,121 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

To date, 9,203 healthcare workers have tested positive for the coronavirus. Hospitalization statistics show that 510 people are currently hospitalized across the commonwealth, of which 93 require the use of a ventilator. 22.6% of hospital beds and 26.1% of adult ICU beds are currently available.

In the last seven days, 159,049 tests have been administered in Pennsylvania, of which 4,819 returned positive results. The rate of positive tests for that period is 3%, according to state data.

As of Aug. 21, 1,399,509 tests have been negative for the coronavirus. 80% of those who have tested positive in Pennsylvania have since recovered, leaving 25,527 active cases across the state.
