Applebee’s in Montgomery Township Has Permanently Closed

Residents of Montgomery Township are down another dining option, as the Applebee’s Grill and Bar on Knapp Road has permanently closed its doors.

Though the building itself — located at 1281 Knapp Road — still bears the branding of the restaurant chain, a sign on the door announces the permanent closure and encourages guests to visit the chain’s other locations in Lansdale, Quakertown and Doylestown. Attempts by North Penn Now to contact the local and corporate office for the reasoning behind the closure have been unsuccessful.

According to reports, Applebee’s parent company, Dine Brands, closed 90 locations in 2018 and said they intended to close 20 additional locations in 2019 and another 20 locations in 2020. The closures were part of a “fine-tuning” of the chain, with a greater emphasis on off-premises catering, takeout and delivery services.

Applebee’s now joins rival restaurant chains in TGI Fridays, Ruby Tuesday and Chilis in having closed their locations in Montgomery Township in recent years.
