A local family has been displaced following a second-story fire on Wedgewood Drive in Lansdale Borough on Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters were dispatched to the 800 block of Wedgewood Drive at 1:36 p.m. on Aug. 14 for a report of a residential fire. Fairmount Fire Company Deputy Chief Gavin Butler said initial reports indicated that someone may have been trapped inside the home, however all searches turned up negative and all family members were safely evacuated prior to the arrival of the fire department.
Butler said firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the top floor of the home, but not before the fire caused extensive damage to the second floor. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring homes, and by 2:09 p.m. the fire had been officially placed under control.
No injuries were reported at the scene, but the family that was residing in the home has been displaced. Butler told North Penn Now that the family has been referred to the Red Cross.
In addition to the Fairmount Fire Company, units from Hatfield Fire Company, Colmar Fire Company, Worcester Fire Company, Lansdale Borough Police Department, Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale and Lansdale Borough Electric assisted at the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and has been turned over to the Fire Marshal’s office.
