UPDATE: Aug. 5, 1:50 p.m. - Towamencin Police Chief Tim Dickinson has confirmed to North Penn Now that the body is in fact 5-year-old Eliza Talal. Dickinson said he will hold a press conference at the Towamencin Township Police Station at 2 p.m.

Original story follows...

The search for an autistic girl who went missing on Tuesday during Tropical Storm Isaias has come to a tragic end, as rescue teams have discovered a child's body at Fischer's Park in Towamencin Township.

Sources have confirmed to North Penn Now that a girl's body was recovered late Wednesday morning. The source stated that the body was located off of a trail at Fischer’s Park.

Police officials have confirmed that a child's body has been recovered at the park, but added that there has been no positive identification and the the situation remains as an active investigation. A press conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. this afternoon.

The family has been notified of the development, officials said.

Towamencin Police Chief Tim Dickinson said the victim walked out of her home — which borders a creek — on Spring Valley Road around noon on Tuesday, just as Tropical Storm Isaias made its way through the area and caused widespread flooding. Since that time, a consortium of first responders, search and rescue teams and volunteers have conducted searches across the area, employing everything from foot searches to drones, boats and thermal-equipped helicopters from the Pennsylvania State Police.

Though the search continued through the overnight hours between Tuesday and Wednesday, rescue teams came up empty handed. Police then issued a release on Wednesday morning stating they were expanding their search area, with a focus on the Towamencin Creek area and surrounding creek bed.

The victim’s body was recovered around 10:45 a.m., and the location of her body was immediately taped off by investigators.

This is a developing story. We will continue to update as more information becomes available.
