North Penn Announces Plans to Move Forward with Hybrid Commencement Celebration

North Penn High School.

(The following is a release from North Penn School District Superintendant Curt Dietrich.)

Dear North Penn High School Seniors and Families,

For 13 years now you have looked forward to graduation. So has everyone here in the North Penn School District. It is the finish line our seniors have worked so hard for, with their families right by their sides. Although we cannot have a traditional, in-person graduation in June, we think the solution found makes the absolute best of our current and foreseeable situation.

We are pleased to announce that the option which the vast majority of your class selected, and which we also believe to be the best, is Option Four - a hybrid celebration!

(Editor’s Note: Option Four is a hybrid celebration that would involve in-person visits to Crawford Stadium by each student and their family prior to June 11. Those visits would then be recorded and merged together for a live broadcast on the evening of June 11. Each student would be able to walk the stage, receive their diploma and pose for photos while maintaining social distancing protocols.)

We are thrilled that on June 11, your scheduled graduation day, you will be recognized for your tireless efforts these past 13 years and receive the diploma you so deserve among friends and loved ones. Although we face some challenges in maintaining a ceremony that is both safe and celebratory, we are North Penn and we know we can do both. And it is our honor and privilege to plan a commencement that reflects our seniors’ and this community’s resilience and strength.

We will continue to work with the class cabinet on details for commencement and also to plan a community celebration for our graduates, encouraging everyone to join in.

As you can imagine, we have many logistics to work out between now and June regarding commencement and other end-of-year events.  We also understand your need to plan as well. We hope to have a schedule next week that includes days and times for cap and gown pickup, drop-off of Chromebooks and other items, and information about other end-of-year events such as Reflections and Senior Awards. And we are working to get you, as soon as possible, a timeframe for when videotaping of graduates receiving their diplomas will occur and will include how you can sign up, how many graduates per time slot, and other details.

We want to thank the senior class and families for their patience and input these past few weeks. Many of you have also offered to help but it is now your turn to sit back and celebrate. The entire staff of the
North Penn School District is UKnighted for the Class of 2020 and your commencement will be legendary.

Sincerely,

Dr. Curt R. Dietrich, NPSD Superintendent

Dr. Todd M. Bauer, NPSD Assistant Superintendent

Mr. Pete Nicholson, NPHS Principal
