An Ambler man was pronounced dead on Tuesday night, following a two-vehicle crash on Sumneytown Pike in North Wales Borough.
First responders were dispatched to the intersection of Sumneytown Pike and Prospect Avenue at 6:10 p.m. on April 21 for a report of a two-vehicle crash. North Wales Borough Police Chief Michael Eves told North Penn Now that a 61-year-old male driver had suffered a medical event behind the wheel that rendered him unconscious, causing him to strike a vehicle and then a utility pole.
Eves said the driver sustained injuries as a result of the crash, and later died while being transported via ambulance to Lansdale Hospital. The driver has since been identified by police as 61-year-old Henry Gibbons, of Ambler Borough.
The driver of the second vehicle—a 39-year-old male—was uninjured in the crash.
Sumneytown Pike was shutdown for approximately one hour due to the crash, and the scene was cleared at 7:18 p.m, according to Eves. North Wales Borough Police were assisted at the scene by units from Upper Gwynedd Township Police, North Penn Fire Company, Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale and a North Penn Crash Team member from the Towamencin Township Police Department,
