Lansdale Tavern owners Julie Palermo and Buddy Harris have announced that they will reopen next week for both takeout and delivery.
Though the tavern initially stayed open for delivery and takeout following Governor Wolf’s order to close all nonessential businesses, they ultimately decided to close on March 31 for both safety reasons and to upgrade their kitchen equipment.
“With a couple friends and family in the area contracting the virus, while we didn't have contact with them, we figured it'd be safer to close for a couple weeks and use the time to regroup,” said Harris. “During this down time, we were able to rearrange the entire kitchen, add another freezer and fryer. We're excited to see how much more effective our kitchen is with the changes.”
The tavern is set to reopen on April 28, offering both takeout and delivery within a five-mile radius. The reopening will also mark the debut of their newest menu offering: The French Onion Burger.
“Our staple during this time has been the burgers of the week,” said Harris. “We will continue to do that, as well as other weekly specials. It has been exciting introducing some of these creations and it's been super gratifying to see the responses. We have so many more ideas to introduce.”
Harris and Palermo took ownership of Lansdale Tavern in late December 2019, and immediately saw widespread support from residents across the local community. After the order to close nonessential businesses in mid-March, that support continued as residents continued to order takeout and tip heavy.
“We were doing better than we thought with takeout originally,” said Harris. “We had a chance to meet so many members of the community that were trying us for the first time, just because they wanted to support the community. And we've made some new friends in the process. On top of that, customers were being extra generous with tips, knowing they were being split between the staff.”
Harris said he hopes that the support continues with their reopening next Tuesday.
“I just want to offer a special thank you to this community. I know I keep saying it, but it really is heartwarming,” said Harris. “The support, the check ins, the kind words, the shares on social media...we took this business over the last week of December. I'm not sure if our timing could have been worse. But, the town we picked to take on this dream couldn't have been better.”
