A Lansdale man is facing a felony weapons charge after he allegedly pulled a firearm during an incident that occurred in Hatfield Township on Wednesday.
According to the release, police were dispatched to the 1300 block of Fairgrounds Road on April 15 for a report of a disturbance involving an armed subject. Upon arrival, police learned that a male suspect—later identified as 33-year-old Alexander Handschu—had pointed a handgun at another person during a dispute, the report states.
Police located Handschu and he was taken into custody without incident, the report states. Once in custody, police recovered a loaded .45 caliber handgun from Handschu’s waistband, according to the report.
Further details regarding the nature of the incident are not available, as district courts are closed due to the coronavirus shutdown, which means there’s no access to the criminal complaint or affidavit of probable cause.
As a result of the incident, Handschu has been charged with one felony count of firearms not to be carried without a license, along with misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, simple assault, possession of a weapon and harassment, and summary counts of harassment-follow into a public place and obstruction of highways.
Handschu was arraigned on April 15 by Magisterial District Judge Michael Quinn, who set bail at $5,000 cash. Handschu was then remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine on April 27 at 9 a.m. (Note: the preliminary hearing will almost certainly be rescheduled.)
(All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause, and reflects the point of view of the police. Should the defendant choose to issue a public statement, or is later found not guilty or has the charges dropped, we will update this article accordingly.)
