As the coronavirus and associated stay at home order continues to impact the North Penn community, two local businesses have recently stepped up to assist those in need.

On Thursday morning, Yanni Lambros and Kostas Papanikolopoulos—owners of the temporarily closed Koffee Korner in Lansdale—provided more than 40 pre-made breakfasts to Manna on Main Street for distribution to area seniors.

“I just wanted to do my part helping in any way I can during this crisis,” said Lambros. “I feel like giving and helping those in need is more important than ever.”

Lambros said they temporarily closed their business on March 16 in an effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus, a decision that that has had an negative impact both financially and mentally.

“It’s something we felt we must do to keep our community safe,” said Lambros.

Despite the adversity, Lambros said he wants to continue to find ways to assist those who are struggling, adding that Thursday’s donation was not a one-off effort.

Likewise, for Mike Wister, of Wister’s Barbecue, a sense of finding ways to help his community has been at the forefront of his daily thoughts. Unlike Koffee Korner, Wister’s Barbecue has remained open in a take-out and delivery capacity, which has lead to him being in a unique position to secure goods on the distribution side of the business.

Earlier this week, Wister donated 145 pounds of ham to Manna on Main Street, which he had received courtesy of a donation from Hatfield Meats. Wister said one half of the donation was pre-made ham dinners, while the other half was the actual hams themselves.

Wister was also able to secure favorable pricing on ground beef, and used his own funds to purchase 100 pounds for donation to Manna. He even added another 200 pounds of mashed sweet potatoes as a side.

Wister said he’s also looking for ways to continue to prop up those who are struggling in the community, and is even considering converting part of his dining floor space into a temporary grocery store for meats and essential food items.
