A local manufacturer has announced that they will soon cease all operations in Colmar.
Constantia Colmar LLC, located along the unit block of County Line Road, is a division of Constantia Flexibles that serves as the packaging company’s dedicated site for confectionary foil in the United States. The manufacturer has operated at the location since the division was founded in 1990, but now plans to have the closure finalized by the end of November.
"One of the pillars of Constantia Flexibles is a commitment to delivering service that exceeds the expectations of our valued customers,” said Latricia Fry, Constantia Flexibles Business Development Manager. "After reviewing our operations, we determined that we can no longer do this effectively from the Constantia Colmar plant and we will begin a process of closing the facility which is expected to conclude in late November.”
According to a spokesperson for the company, employees were notified earlier this week of the planned shutdown. In total, roughly 60 employees will lose their jobs as a result of the closure, just days before Thanksgiving.
"This is a difficult but necessary decision for our company,” said Fry. "We recognize the impact this decision will have on our Colmar employees and their families. In conjunction with the union, we plan to support each impacted employee during this transition with a separation package. We appreciate the dedication they have shown over time in creating packaging solutions for some of America’s best loved brands. We are also appreciative of the many residents and organizations in the Colmar area with whom we have been proud to collaborate over the years.”
The closure is expected to be finalized on Nov. 24.
