The Lansdale Borough Economic Development Committee has named The Mitre Box as their Business of the Month for September.

The multi-generational business initially launched in 1955 as the Hollywood Frame Shop by father-and-son duo Wilbur Ingham Sr. and Bill Ingham Jr., and has occupied multiple different locations throughout its time in the borough, including 18 years at 325 West Main and a shorter stint on West Second Street. The business is currently owned by Joseph and Beverly Kicinski, and has operated out of 25 Susquehanna Avenue for the last 18 years.

“From their website, you will learn that they always thrive on framing the difficult and unusual, while being creative and maintaining museum quality standards,” said Borough Council President Denton Burnell, during the presentation of the award. “Some of the possibilities include needlework, shadow boxes, flag and medal cases, mirrors, canvas transfers, prints, posters and more.”

Burnell recalled an experience he had as a customer at The Mitre Box, where he wanted to get a t-shirt from his honeymoon framed. Burnell said Joe Kicinski spent quite a bit of time presenting him with options, and explained the differences from the perspective of a practiced eye.

“Ultimately, he gave me framing samples to take home with me so that I could truly appreciate what the frame would look like in my home,” said Burnell. “It was immediately clear that his primary concern was that I ultimately be happy with my choice, and not just rush me to close a sale.”

In addition to framing prints, sports jerseys and paintings, The Mitre Box also specializes in the more difficult to frame items, such as stained glass, double sided art and more. The store is certified by the Professional Picture Framers Association, and provides a personal touch to each job.
