Dickerson Road Closed Due to Chemical Spill in Upper Gwynedd

UPDATE: Sept. 20, 3:53 p.m. - The Upper Gwynedd Township Police Department has released the following statement:

Upper Gwynedd Police remain on the scene at Dickerson Road in North Wales.

Police received a call earlier this morning that there had been a spill on the roadway. As a precaution, the Upper Gwynedd Sewer Department was notified immediately of this concern. Dickerson Road between Wissahickon Ave and Sumneytown Pike remains shut down until further notice.

There is no concern to the public at this time, but we are awaiting an environmental cleanup company to arrive to mitigate the spill. We will continue to update our Facebook page as we progress through this investigation.

UPDATE: Sept. 20, 1:30 p.m. - Hazmat crews, along with police and fire personnel, remain on scene. The road is expected to be closed for an extended period of time, per police.

Dickerson Road in Upper Gwynedd Township has been closed between Wissahickon Avenue and Sumneytown Pike, after a truck reportedly spilled roof-coating materials into the roadway and storm drains.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, the incident was reported at 10:32 a.m. along the 500 block of Richardson Road. Sources tell North Penn Now that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has been notified of the spill.

Currently, members of the Upper Gwynedd Township Police Department and Upper Gwynedd Volunteer Fire Company are on the scene. No timetable has been given for the reopening of the road, and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
