Fugitive Who Stole $15,000 in Walmart Electronics Captured Over Weekend: Police

A Philadelphia man who allegedly stole more than $15,000 in electronics from the Hilltown Walmart was captured over the weekend, 11 months after the incident occurred.

According to the release, Hilltown Township Police responded to 1500 block of Bethlehem Pike on Oct. 20, 2018, for a report of a retail theft that had just occurred. Investigators learned that an electronics storage case had been pried open, and its contents were emptied into a suitcase. The suspects—later identified as 42-year-old James Jordan and 20-year-old Jahmir Mitchell—then exited the store and fled the area, the release states.

In total, more than $15,000 worth of Apple and Samsung electronics were stolen, police said.

After investigators learned the identities of the suspects, arrest warrants were issued for both men on Feb. 5, 2019. Police also learned that Jordan and Mitchell were under investigation for numerous other high-dollar retail thefts involving electronics in Pennsylvania and the surrounding states.

On Sept. 15, members of the Pennsylvania State Police, Belfast Station, encountered Jordan and took him into custody. Jordan was then arraigned on Monday morning by Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage on felony charges of organized retail theft, retail theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy to commit those charges.

Judge Armitage set Jordan’s bail at 10-percent of $50,000 cash, and he was then remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility after failing to post. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Oct. 15 at 2:15 p.m. in front of Judge Armitage.

The whereabouts of Mitchell remain unknown. Anyone with information regarding Mitchell is asked to contact the Hilltown Township Police Department at 215-453-6000. Additionally, tips can be sent electronically by clicking here.
