Well Crafted Beer Company has announced that they will reopen this Friday, following a month-long closure due to flooding of the taproom.
Fresh off of their wildly-successful one-year anniversary party on Aug. 10, staff arrived the following Monday morning to find that their taproom had been flooded by a faulty water heater valve in the apartment above.
“Unfortunately, there was a lot of water damage from the flood and almost the entire taproom was impacted,” said Nica Bellenger, who serves as the marketing manager for Well Crafted. “Our taproom took over a year to renovate and open, but was damaged in just one night.”
Bellenger said they were fortunate that they were able to reconnect with the architect and contractor who created the original build-out, and with their help, the taproom has been restored to mint condition.
“You can expect a brand new ceiling, freshly painted walls, refinished floor with a nice shine, rebuilt stage and sound system, and acoustic paneling is back in place,” said Bellenger. “It's like-new and we're excited to welcome back guests for a beer!”
Though the taproom was damaged, the brewery side was not impacted by the flood. Operations on that end continued mostly as usual during the repair period, though staff and management had to find creative ways to distribute their brews outside of their taproom. Sometimes that meant opening their upstairs atrium for a few hours a week, while other efforts relied heavily on the businesses and breweries around the area.
“The Lansdale businesses have been so supportive,” said Bellenger. “They've opened their doors so we can do pop-up events, shared our story, and it's fantastic to be in a community where people want each other to succeed. Scott Rudich from Round Guys was the first person to reach out to us and ask if there was anything he could do to help. Wister's Barbeque, Scent & Sip, Boardroom Spirits, Stove and Tap and The Underground have all helped in some way and we can't thank them enough.”
Beyond the Lansdale area, Bellenger said she was shocked and humbled by the response from the regional beer community.
“Over a dozen breweries reached out to help by putting our fresh beer on their guest taps or providing temporary positions for our staff during the shutdown,” said Bellenger. “I want to thank Ambler Beer Company, Blueprint, Broken Goblet, Brothers Kershner, Levante, McAllister's, Perkiomen Valley Brewing, Punch Buggy Brewing, Round Guys Brewing, Stable 12, The Ways Restaurant and Brewery, Ten7, Tuned Up, and Underground for supporting Well Crafted during the flood. We are so lucky to be in an industry where people care about each other.”
With the flood soon to be in their rear-view mirror, Well Crafted will reopen at 4 p.m. on Sept. 13, potentially with a few new features. Bellenger said they have a few surprises up their sleeves, but it depends on if they have enough time to install prior to their reopening.
Otherwise, it will be business as usual, with a return to normal hours and operations.
“It feels incredible,” Bellenger said. “Can't wait to meet new people and welcome back our friends and neighbors.”
