Our Personal Experience

The public relations team behind Firebirds Wood Fired Grill was kind enough to invite us out for the grand opening, so we ventured into new territory in an effort to see what all the hype was about.

Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by several smiling faces who took us to our table. Once seated, we were quickly greeted by regional manager Michael Varipapa, who gave us an overview of the restaurant and the menu, and made several suggestions for first-time guests. The interior of the building was very welcoming and modern, with lighting that is perfectly dimmed, but bright over the table.

Moments later, we were greeted by our server, Angela, who went over the specials and made a few recommendations. On the drink side, we went with the Slow Burn Margarita and the Double Black Diamond Martini, and on the food side, we started with the Ranch Rings—per the recommendation from Varipapa—and the Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls—per the recommendation of Angela.

The drinks were exceptionally balanced and refreshing, and the food was just as good. We only made it halfway through the appetizers before ordering our main courses—a slow roasted 12 oz prime rib, and the Firebirds Chicken Pasta with a veggie substitute for chicken. Both were extremely well done, flavorful and well worth the price (more on pricing later).

One very unique aspect of our experience was that while we were eating dinner, Angela brought out a new frozen glass for my Martini, just to ensure that it remained cold. Well played, Firebirds.

We finished our evening with the warm chocolate brownie and the carrot cake, both which delivered handsomely. I’m personally not a fan of desserts or anything really sweet, yet even I found myself indulging in the delicious aftermeal.

In all, we had a great time, left with three take-home bags of the food that we didn’t eat, and couldn’t find a single thing to complain about. In fact, I mentioned that I (almost) wished that we had paid for the meal instead of being comped, as I didn’t want the disclaimer below to falsely lead our readers to the conclusion that I’m some kind of Firebirds pitchman.

Truth be told, we kept a watchful eye on the staff and other guests, just to observe the experience for others. We also had several friends of ours at the location at the same time—including Holly Henning, from Madison Station Apartments—who spoke glowingly of their experience on opening night.

On the price side, it really depends on how you dine and what you expect in an experience. Appetizers run from about $9 to $14, and entrees are mostly $20 to $30, with some outliers that are $30 to $50. With drinks and food, we estimated our meal would have cost around $150, sans tip. For where Firebirds stands in the market, the pricing—in our view—provides great value when considering the quality of the food and experience, as well as the quantity which we took home.

Overall, we would highly recommend checking this place out. The menu has a great variety of foods, the drinks are unique and the vibe is very relaxing.

(Disclaimer: Though no agreement for coverage was made, Firebirds Wood Fired Grill invited us to their grand opening and provided our meal and drinks free of charge.)
