Motorcyclist Airlifted Following Police Pursuit, Crash in Towamencin

A Norristown man was airlifted to a Philadelphia hospital on Sunday night, after crashing his motorcycle during a brief police pursuit on Morris Road in Towamencin Township.

The incident began shortly after 8 p.m. on Sept. 1. According to Towamencin Township Police Chief Tim Dickinson, police attempted to initiate a traffic stop due to the motorcycle allegedly having no functioning rear lights, but the driver did not stop. A brief pursuit ensued, which ended when the motorcycle crashed along the 3300 block of Morris Road.

Dickinson said the driver—identified as a 37-year-old male from Norristown—sustained multiple injuries as a result of the crash, but was conscious at the scene. A source with knowledge of the incident described the injuries as including head trauma, and Dickinson added that the male was airlifted to Jefferson University Hospital for treatment.

The identity of the male is being withheld by police, pending charges being filed at the conclusion of their investigation.

Morris Road was closed for roughly one hour due to the incident, according to Dickinson. Lansdale Volunteer Medical Services Corps and the Worcester Fire Company assisted Towamencin Police at the scene.
