Anwar Muhammad Named Chairman of Ambler NAACP Economic Development Committee

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

— African Proverb.

One of Lansdale’s most engaging Lansdale business owners is set to take his skills and wisdom to a more regional stage, as Shaykh Anwar Muhammad has been appointed as chairman of the Ambler NAACP’s Economic Development Committee.

Muhammad, 40, is the owner of the Black Reserve Bookstore—located along the 300 block of West Main Street, inside Dresher Arcade—and he frequently hosts a variety of events in-store and throughout the area, mostly dealing with charitable efforts and issues of equality and civil rights.

“My first goal as committee chairman will be to galvanize all of the minority owned businesses in the area,” said Muhammad. “Every black business in the area should know that the other exists. We should know what we’re doing, where we are, and we should all be working together and taking care of one another.”

Once he has successfully united the minority-owned businesses throughout the North Penn, Indian Valley and Wissahickon regions of the area, Muhammad said he wants to launch a pilot program called Spotlight, which is essence is a Business of the Month type program, but for black and minority-owned businesses.

Beyond that, Muhammad said his primary focus will be teaching entrepreneurship to youth throughout the region.

“I know how difficult it can be to start a business, keep it going, market the business, etc.,” Muhammad said. “Now I have the opportunity to pass that along to our youth, to help them understand how they can become business owners, achieve their dreams.”
