Local Tap to Host Grand Opening Celebration Early Next Month

Lansdale’s Pavilion Shopping Center will soon be host to a stylish new 50-seat tasting room, serving locally produced craft beers, distilled spirits and PA wines.

Dubbed “Local Tap” by Village Tavern founder Theresa Modestine, the new tasting room—located at 527 South Broad Street—plans to hold its Grand Opening Celebration on Nov. 9, featuring live music, complimentary snacks and much more. (note: there have been a series of soft openings and business hours in recent weeks, as staff works on their systems and structure.)

The new tasting room will offer 20 rotating taps and a plethora of canned craft beers from PA-based breweries, as well as locally distilled spirits such as Boardroom Spirits, Dad's Hat PA Rye and Bluebird Distillery, as well as a variety of Pennsylvania wines.

Doylestown Brewery, which is owned and operated by Theresa's brother-in-law, Joe Modestine, will be the primary source of the craft beers, including Doylestown Lager, Union Street IPA, R5 Lager, Local Tap House, North Bound Pilsner and the Travis Manion Foundation’s If Not Me Then Who Blonde Ale.

"We will take great pride in serving delicious locally-produced beverages, as we’ve always supported local businesses," said Theresa, whose family also previously owned The Saloon in West Norriton. "We see this more as a tasting room for local beverages more than a bar and restaurant. We’re focused on making sure our guests receive friendly, superior service as well as the best possible products, and our space will be very family-friendly and work-friendly while creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. We’ll even be paying homage to Lansdale’s past with some really cool period photos that showcase the community over the years."

Menu offerings prepared in-house will be simple, including snacks such as hummus & pita, warm soft pretzels with house-made beer cheese, cheese and charcuterie plates, and tomato pies from Corropolese Italian Bakery & Deli. In addition to locally produced beer, wine and spirits, Local Tap will offer specialty coffee beverages, including an affogato utilizing coffee from Lansdale's Backyard Beans and ice cream from nearby Merrymead Farm. Kombucha, which will be available alcohol free or spiked, along with fresh made local pastries, including apple cake and cinnamon buns from Chestnut Hill’s beloved Barry's Buns.

While hot foods will not be available, Local Tap will designate a server on the weekends to expedite “food running” from neighboring restaurants and take-out spots nearby, including Italian specialties from neighboring Amici Italian Market and Palermo's Pizza, snacks from Manhattan Bagels, and Asian specialties from Hong Kong Kitchen and Joa Sushi. Flights of local craft spirits, beers and PA wines will be available, and Theresa is currently developing a "Travis Manion Tribute Special" as their own version of a citywide special.

Complimentary charging stations, printing services, and WiFi will be available to daytime guests looking for a co-working atmosphere without a membership fee, and a number of games will be available for kids and families. The space includes a private party room and four big-screen TVs for local sporting events, and Local Tap will also feature monthly charity initiatives such as "Guest Charity" Mondays, which will see the Modestine Family choose a charity to donate $1 from each beer to at the end of every month.

"The goal is to kick a few kegs monthly to offer a sizable donation to a different local charity," said Theresa, who built and ran the Village Tavern with husband John and their family for 23 years before selling it last year. "We named our new business Local Tap because we want to connect everything with the community. Lansdale is a growing, affluent community attracting new families and retaining longtime residents who seem to love the recent explosion of new businesses, and we’re excited to get open and give back as much as we can."
