UPDATE: Oct. 28, 3:21 p.m. - Lansdale Borough Police have released the following statement:
On Monday, Oct. 28 at approximately 12:56 p.m., Lansdale Police Department received information on a wanted subject in the 800 block of West Main Street. During contact with the subject, he fled on foot into the west ward neighborhood in the 800 block of Derstine Avenue.
A large police presence set up a perimeter in the area and the subject was located and taken into custody. During the incident, York Avenue Elementary School initiated lockdown procedures for a short time as a precaution.
In an alert that was emailed to parents shortly before 2 p.m., the school district stated that the students are safe, and no one will be allowed to enter or leave the school during the lockout.
“Please do not report to the school at this time,” the district said in the email. “Police are in the area and NPSD security at the school as a precautionary measure. Parents will be notified via the emergency messaging system with any updates and when the lockout is lifted.”
The nature of the police activity in the area is currently unknown. Sources state that there is a heavy police presence in the area of the 700 block of Columbia Ave, but we have been unable to confirm at this time.
