Police Uncover Drugs, Counterfeit Currency During Traffic Stop in Montgomery Township

Matthew Moss, 34, of Bensalem.

A Bensalem man is facing felony drug charges following a traffic stop in Montgomery Township late Thursday evening.

According to the criminal complaint, police conducted a traffic stop along the 700 block of Horsham Road on Oct. 24 at 11:38 p.m. after they encountered a gray Honda Civic with illegally tinted windows. Police made contact with the driver—identified as 34-year-old Matthew Moss—and detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, the report states.

Moss allegedly produced a small marijuana blunt, at which point police instructed Moss and the passenger to exit the vehicle so they could conduct a probable cause search, the report states.

Police said the search uncovered approximately 28 grams of packaged marijuana and nearly seven grams of cocaine packaged in separate bags, along with packaging materials, a digital scale, written ledgers indicating the locations and sales of drugs and more. Police also recovered $380 in small denominations from Moss’ wallet, the report states.

Additionally, the report states that 15 counterfeit $100 bills were recovered from the vehicle.

As a result of the incident, Moss has been charged with four felony counts of possession with intent to distribute, along with four misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, three misdemeanor counts of possession of a small amount of marijuana, eight misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of an instrument of crime and related summary offenses.

Moss was arraigned on Oct. 25 by Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy, who set bail at $20,000 cash. He was then remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.

His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Nov. 7 at 1:30 p.m. in front of Judge Duffy.
