Man Arrested After Attempting to Cash Counterfeit Check with Real Name, Home Address: Police

A Philadelphia man is facing felony charges after he allegedly attempted to cash two fraudulent checks linked to a company in New Britain Township.

According to the criminal complaint, Montgomery Township Police responded to the Univest Bank along the 900 block of Bethlehem Pike on Oct. 23 for a report of a male suspect attempting to cash a counterfeit check in the amount of $1,892.23. Upon police arrival, the suspect—identified as 26-year-old Omar Kelly—attempted to flee the scene, but he was quickly apprehended, the report states.

Police said the fraudulent check allegedly included Kelly’s name and home address, and was drawn from the Coating Service Company in Bucks County.

Investigators later learned that, prior to the incident in Montgomery Township, Kelly had allegedly cashed a similar check in an identical amount at a Univest Bank in Hilltown Township. That check also included Kelly’s name, address and driver’s license number, according to the report.

The Coating Service Company stated that Kelly was not issued the checks, nor was her permitted to print his name a cash the checks, which totaled $3,784.46, the report states. He was then taken into custody.

As a result of the incidents, Kelly has been charged with two felony counts each of forgery, theft by deception and identity theft, along with a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.

Kelly was arraigned on Oct. 23 by Magisterial District Judge Scott Palladino, who set his bail at $10,000 unsecured. He was then released from custody, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy on Nov. 4 at 10 a.m.
