A Philadelphia man is facing multiple felony charges after he allegedly stole thousands of dollars from his employer in Lower Gwynedd Township.
According to the complaint, police were dispatched to Geo Specialty Chemicals, located at 300 Brookside Avenue, on Aug. 22 for a report of an employee theft. Upon arrival, police learned that a payroll clerk—identified as 41-year-old Vincent Robinson—had been fired earlier that day for allegedly stealing from the company, the report states.
Investigators learned that from May through August, Robinson would wait for the payroll to be approved, then log-in and change his paycheck prior to payout, police said. The complaint states that Robinson earned a salary of approximately $1,960 per pay period, but received payments of $4,129.09, $4215.94, $4,024.11 and $4,016.18 via direct deposit over four pay periods, the report states.
Additionally, two paper checks in the amounts of $4,293.38 and $4,041.29 were allegedly cashed by Robinson, and a third paper check in the amount of $4,231.54 was discovered and held onto prior to Robinson picking it up, the report states.
Total losses for the employer is estimated to be more than $13,000, the report states.
As a result of the investigation, Robinson was charged on Oct. 15 with one felony count of theft by unlawful taking, one felony count of receiving stolen property and seven felony counts of criminal use of a communication facility.
Robinson was arraigned on Oct. 16 by Magisterial District Judge Suzan Leonard, who set bail at $10,000 unsecured. He was then released from custody, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Oct. 30 at 10 a.m. in front of Judge Leonard.
