Man Struck Multiple Vehicles While Driving Drunk at Wedgewood: Police

A Lansdale man has been charged with DUI and related offenses after he allegedly struck multiple vehicles while driving under the influence of alcohol at Wedgewood last month.

According to the complaint, Lansdale Borough Police were dispatched to the 800 block of Wedgewood Drive on Sept. 20 at 3:58 a.m. for a report of a hit and run in progress. Dispatch advised police that a white Ford pickup truck had struck a parked car and fled the scene, and further reports indicated that the pickup had struck additional vehicles and was last seen heading into a nearby alley.

Upon arrival, police located the unoccupied pickup truck and noted that it had sustained heavy front-end damage, as well as dents and scratches running the length of the passenger side of the vehicle, the report states. As police were interviewing a nearby resident, they were approached by 23-year-old Mohammed Gani, who stated that he was the driver of the truck, police said.

Gani reportedly told police that he had had been drinking and fell asleep while driving, which caused the crash, the report states. Police said Gani smelled of alcohol, and had slurred speech and red, glassy eyes, according to the report. Gani also failed the field sobriety tests, police said.

The report states that Gani was then taken into custody, and adds that he refused to submit to a blood test.

As a result of the incident, Gani was charged on Oct. 16 with one misdemeanor count of DUI, along with summary charges of accidents causing damage to unattended vehicles, careless driving, disregarding traffic lanes and driving on a suspended license.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17 at 10:45 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine.
