"What’s going on at the Towamencin Shopping Center?"
This has been a popular question lately with regard to the parking lot storage and recent tree removals at the shopping center. Earlier this summer, Amazon had arranged for the temporary parking of its Sprinter-style delivery vans with the shopping center owner, PSDC, at the nearly vacant Towamencin Shopping Center, at Allentown and Forty Foot Roads. The Amazon vans and employee vehicles are allowed to park there through Dec. 31, 2019, as Amazon seeks a permanent storage facility for their vehicles within 10 miles of their Gehman Road location.
In addition, PSDC has engaged a landscaping company to remove all the old trees at the shopping center in preparation for a new landscaping plan associated with the site’s redevelopment. Many of the older trees were growing into overhead utility lines, as well as blocking views of the businesses. A more up-to-date design plan with sustainable landscaping, in accordance with updated township development ordinances, will be provided by PSDC as they unveil their redevelopment plans over the next several months.
The developer is expected to present their latest renderings at the Towamencin Township Board of Supervisors meeting on Oct. 23.
