Man Steals from Hatfield 7-Eleven Three Times in Three Hours, Arrested on Fourth Attempt: Police

David Jackson, 29, of Lansdale.

A Lansdale man is facing felony retail theft charges after he allegedly stole from a 7-Eleven in Hatfield three times over a period of three hours.

Police were dispatched to the 1600 block of North Broad Street at 1:20 a.m. on Oct. 2 for a report of a disturbance. Dispatch advised police that it was an ongoing issue with a male customer that was arguing and had allegedly stolen items. Prior to police arrival, the suspect—identified as 29-year-old David Jackson—had already left the scene, according to the complaint.

Police said Jackson had been issued a no-trespass letter from 7-Eleven in September, due to previous issues, the report states.

Through speaking with the clerk and viewing surveillance footage, police learned that Jackson allegedly walked into the store at 12:13 a.m., grabbed a black ski hat located at the front of the store, then took it to the register, removed the tag and placed $1 on the counter. Jackson then allegedly grabbed a glazed honey bun from the counter and exited the store without paying, police said.

An hour later, Jackson allegedly returned to the store, grabbed a package of Phillies headphones, then placed $2 on the register and exited, police said. Jackson again returned to the store at 2:34 a.m., at which point he allegedly stole a honey bun from the donut display case, and exited the store while eating the pastry without paying, the report states.

At 4:14 a.m., Jackson was again located at 7-Eleven, at which point police took him into custody, the report states. Total value of the stolen items was $21.36, minus the $3 Jackson left at the register, according to the complaint.

As a result of the incidents, Jackson has been charged with three felony counts of retail theft and one felony count of retail theft-alter label, as well as four misdemeanor counts of defiant criminal trespass.

Jackson was arraigned Wednesday morning by Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy, who set bail at $5,000 cash. He was then remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing in front of Judge Duffy on Oct. 15 at 10:45 a.m.

According to the criminal complaint, Jackson has three prior retail theft convictions since 2016.
