Imprint Beer Co. will host a free pig roast this Sunday, with all donations going to Manna on Main.
The event is scheduled for Oct. 20 from noon to 5 p.m. at Imprint’s Tasting Room, located at 1500 Industry Road Suite O in Hatfield.
The pig itself has an interesting history. “Jerry,” as he has affectionately been named, has a diet that includes spent grains from the brewery. During the brewing process, barley, oats and wheat are mashed (heated in hot water) in order to convert starches to sugars. After rinsing the grains, boiling and fermenting the resultant wort, the “spent” grains are then turned over to a Quakertown farmer, who feeds about 40 pigs.
“When Jesse, our farmer, offered us the pig, we wanted to share it with the folks who have been drinking the beers,” said Brendan Connelly, co-owner of Imprint Beer Co. “With the Eagles playing the Cowboys later that night, the name “Jerry” was a natural. Go Birds!”.
This is the second charitable event that Imprint has teamed up with Manna, who will be providing side dishes for the pig roast. Earlier this year, the pair held a chili cook-off at the Imprint tasting room.
Imprint will also be pouring its second beer this month to benefit cancer organizations, a hazy IPA, “Surviving Beautifully.” All draft pours, and a portion of can sales, are being donated to the American Cancer Society and the V Foundation.
