A Warminster Township Police Officer is on the receiving end of heaping public praise, after he saved a man’s life by applying a tourniquet earlier this month.
On Oct. 2 at 5:07 p.m., Officer Joseph Parell was conducting a traffic detail in the area of 10th Avenue and York Road when he was approached by an adult male who was in need of help. As Parell exited his vehicle, the man fell to his knees, and Parell noticed that the man’s arm and lower torso were saturated with blood from an unknown injury.
After immediately calling for an ambulance, Parell assessed the situation and concluded that due to the extent of the injury, the man was in need of lifesaving medical care. The release states that the man was sweating profusely and was discolored due to blood loss, so Parell applied a tourniquet to the man’s arm in order to control the bleeding.
Parell stayed with the man until medics arrived, applying pressure to the wounded area and prepping the man for transport. The man began to lose consciousness as the ambulance arrived, and he was then taken to Abington Hospital for treatment.
“Parell’s professional demeanor and dedication to duty is a credit not only to himself, but to the entire Warminster Township Police Department,” said police, in a prepared statement. “His actions have demonstrated that he is truly an asset to this department and the entire community.”
Parell spoke to the man the following day to check on his status, according to the release. Police said the man expressed his gratitude to Parnell, and thanked him for the assistance at the time of his injury.
According to a report from Natalya Bucuy at the Public Spirit, Parell joined the Warminster Township Police Department in March 2016, after prior service with the Yardley and Tullytown police departments.
